Sarah Grote is an award-winning Connecticut photographer, painter, and author. Her work has been accepted into galleries, juried shows, and museums, including those at the Art Center East, Art League of New Britain (ALNB), Association of Media Photographers (ASMP), Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA+), Connecticut Women Artists (CWA), Equus Film and Art Fest, Essex Art Association Gallery (EAA), Gallery 53, Gallery 66, Hartford ArtSpace Gallery, Hygienic Art, Joy of Art! at HFSC, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, the Mark Twain Library, the Mattatuck Museum, Mystic Museum of Art, Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts, Rowayton Art Center, Shoreline Arts Alliance, Slater Memorial Museum, Spectrum Gallery, the West Hartford Art League, and WORKSPACE Manchester. She was selected as an EAA Elected Artist and Board Member in 2022 and was selected to be the EAA Gallery Director in March of 2023. She is a member of ASMP, Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, Connecticut Women Artists, Gallery 53, NBMAA, the Mattatuck Museum, and the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce. She is also the administrator for the Essex Board of Trade.

Sarah most recently was accepted into The Mattatuck Museum for two shows, Mixmaster 2024 and the Riverside Photo Contest. Her photo, “Sunflower in the Sand”, was accepted into the CWA Annual Members Juried Show. She won first place in Gallery 53’s 99th Annual Fall Show, an award in honor of Eunice Goodyear. She also won Best Photo for "The Starting Line Heat" in EAA's Summer Juried Show. Her photo “Fiona and the Stormy Skies” won the First Place Photography award for the Joy of Art! show at HFSC in June 2023, the First Prize for the Gallery 53 Photo Show, and a Third Place award for Hygienic Art’s “f-stops here” juried exhibition. Her photo "Manchester View of Hartford" won one of the five Honorable Mention awards, and her photo "Blue Skies Shining on Me" was also accepted. Her painting “Twilight Highlights” won Best in Theme for EAA’s Spring Juried Show. In the EQUUS Film & Arts Fest, she won the Winnie Award for Literary Rescue for her book ”Journey of the Dream Team” in 2023 and the Winnie Award for Equine Photography in 2022. She won Best in Show at Gallery 53's 13th Annual Photography Show, "A Moment in Time", for her photo, "Ethereal" in September 2022. Her photos "Best Friends" and "Window to the Soul" were accepted into the Shoreline Arts Alliance IMAGES 2022 show and the latter was awarded an Honorable Mention. Her photo "Ethereal" won Best Photo in CDHR's "Save a Horse - Buy Art!" juried art show and was also selected for the Art League of New Britain's Members Show. "Sharing Thoughts", a tribute painting to the Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue's Percheron team and ambassadors, Spencer & Oliver, won 4th Place in the Art League of New Britain's 15th Annual Spring Open Juried Exhibit and was selected for the Mark Twain Library 50th Anniversary Art Show. Her photos have been selected for the Connecticut Horse Magazine covers and articles, and she was chosen as a top equine artist in that publication in 2015. Sarah Grote has been the official photographer for the Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue (CDHR) since 2014. She was unanimously elected to the Board of Directors CDHR in 2015 and is the VP of the Board of Directors. CDHR has received two citations from the State of Connecticut honoring the organization. Sarah is honored to be part of this wonderful organization and is committed to CDHR’s legacy. "I am a photographer, painter, and author located in Connecticut. My primary focus is on equine art, with an additional focus on flora and fauna and portraiture. I particularly love black & white photography, inspired by my Dad’s photography growing up. I also love working with other artists - creative connections are awesome forces that create greatness and breakthroughs! I always try to encourage others to share their creativity and artistry. About twelve years ago I was able to build up the courage to go on my artistic journey which started with photography, and then painting. In 2022 I wrote a book, and this year I am collaborating with an author to publish a book about Connecticut equine rescue organizations." |

Journey of the Dream Team
By Sarah E. Grote Sarah Grote is an award-winning photographer and painter residing in central Connecticut. Her work has been accepted into galleries and juried shows across Connecticut, and her photos have been featured in local, regional, national, and international publications. Sarah is always excited to share her love for the horses of the Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue (CDHR) through her artistry. CDHR is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2011 by Stacey Golub, DVM, and is dedicated to saving the lives of draft horses that were bound for slaughter, in addition to victims of starvation, neglect, or abuse whose owners are unable to provide for their needs. Sarah has been the official photographer for CDHR since 2014 and has been the VP of the Board of Directors since 2015. Sarah is honored to be part of this wonderful organization and is committed to CDHR's legacy, especially with this story of Spencer & Oliver, the Percheron "Dream Team". |
