MISSION STATEMENT
To continue a 117 year tradition of keeping art alive in Meriden by supporting local artists and providing opportunities for creative visual expression!
To continue a 117 year tradition of keeping art alive in Meriden by supporting local artists and providing opportunities for creative visual expression!
Gallery 53 is dedicated to making art accessible to everyone in the community with exhibits, classes, and events. We’re located in the heart of Meriden’s TOD (Transit Oriented District) in an emerging arts hub. Our 53 Colony Street building is a hive of creative activity and features a pottery studio, an amazing gift shop, a spacious, light-filled art studio overlooking the Meriden Green, and a fully equipped meeting room available for rental.
We have built a strong art community with a core of dedicated volunteers and talented instructors. We have a stable, committed Board of Directors as well as a Director with property management and arts organization management experience. In fact, we were honored for our 110th Anniversary by the City of Meriden and the State of Connecticut for making art part of the community and contributing to its’ cultural enrichment!
If you’ve never shopped in our gift shop, attended one of our events or exhibits, or taken a class at the gallery – or if you haven’t visited us in a while – we invite you to come down to Colony Street, park for free in the garage just across the street, and see for yourself how Meriden’s tradition of aesthetics continues at Gallery 53! We promise to give you a warm welcome! Join us in keeping art alive in Meriden!

ANTI-RACISM STATEMENT
We at Gallery 53 have always been proud of Meriden's diversity, and strongly believe it is our blending of cultures that makes this city unique and strong. We recognize the persistent and painful pattern of racism in this country, enabled by widespread complacency, and stand in support with the people of color in this community.
Our volunteers are brainstorming ways to use our platform to amplify the voices of our city. You can expect community centric events and shows in the coming months. We are planning programs to involve Meriden's children. Additionally, we are looking for expanded participation from people of color in the planning and execution of our work.
We understand this fight reaches beyond protests. We are here to listen and you can count on us for a long term commitment to lasting change.
