Day 1 – Botanical Drawing
Instruction will be focused on drawing skills. This will include the option of tracing an image that you already have, but it is hoped that you will be open to drawing from life, thinking about line being “organic” and learning to use artistic license to create your own botanical drawing. Bring your own paper and pencils and a plant or a picture of what you would like to draw. Instructor will provide some plant life and images and will work with each individual to help them achieve their own work of art. All levels welcome.
Day 2 – Botanical Painting
You may bring whatever medium you wish to add color to one of your botanical drawings. Come with a light sketch of your idea, and some thoughts about color. There will be review of the advantages of mixing your own colors (there are thousands of greens out there), how to create contrast and fill in space. All levels welcome.
ABOUT CANDACE BIALCZAK
Candace Bialczak earned a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School. She originally worked in oils and acrylics, painting landscapes, seascapes and portraits. Other endeavors included photo retouching, rug design, picture framing and murals. At some point, she fell in love with watercolor because of the subtlety of color and nuances that may go unnoticed with just a passing glance. Her work also progressed from landscapes to detailed, magnified, natural objects. Candace currently teaches art to middle school students in the Wallingford Public School System, is a member of the Guilford Art League and the Madison Art Society, and has received art several awards. Her work can be seen at Gallery 53 in Meriden and at various art shows in Connecticut.
