“Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible.”
- Paul Klee, Creative Credo
We constantly seek to support new artists, new voices, new work. By dedicating this exhibit to abstract art, we hope to provide exposure for new voices as well as our member artists' more experimental, less traditional work.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT . . .
Many people accurately figure out what the subject of my photo is but many are left with questions.
This is a photograph of ice from a frozen swampy area in the woodlands near Meriden. This particular winter the amount of precipitation combined with cold temperatures produced an incredible display of tonal variations in the ice. The swamp also produces gasses from decomposing plant material which results in bubbles being trapped within the ice.
On this particular day I also was blessed with a soft spray of sunlight across the surface of the ice creating the lighter areas within the composition and adding even more compositional beauty.
I’d like to also note that this is NOT a closeup macro photo of ice…the scene photographed was actually about 3 foot across…so you can image the incredible abstract art nature displayed for me that day throughout the entire frozen pond landscape.
The photo at Gallery 53 is framed to 42” across…about life size to what I was viewing.

JUROR'S STATEMENT
"The excitement in this abstraction exhibit is that it contains every type of abstraction one could want to see: from color field and geometric formalism to amorphous flowing colors to strong and simple line work, complex repetition and everything outward and beyond. I chose the award winners because they drew me inside different worlds of texture, atmosphere, gorgeous surfaces, arrangements and color. Those were the criteria that jumped out at me from this show and I kept returning to the pieces that hit that sweet spot. However, the work in this show is gorgeously wonderful and I applaud all of the artists and thank them for the opportunity to meet them through their work and again in the future."
