JUROR: PAUL KULIKOWSKI
After 35 years of teaching art in public school, Paul Kulikowski retired in 2013 and worked part time as Supervisor for Adult Education in Simsbury, Connecticut until 2019. He has also served as a juror for the statewide Scholastic Art Awards for several years.
A 1976 graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Mr. Kulikowski holds BS, MS, 6th Year, and 7th Year degrees in Art Education. In 1997, he was named Connecticut Art Educator of the Year, and in 1998 was presented with the National Art Education Association’s Connecticut Art Educator Award. He was also awarded Simsbury’s prestigious Elliot P. Dodge Education Award. In 2007, he was named Simsbury Teacher of the Year. |
In addition to teaching art, Mr. Kulikowski was the founder, director and curator of the Henry James School Art Gallery, which continues to showcase the art work of students as well as serving as a community link for local artists to exhibit their work in the school. As an art advocate, he is Past-President of the Connecticut Art Education Association, and also their Advocacy and Publicity Chair.
In his retirement, Mr. Kulikowski continues to be an active voice in the state’s art community, and he continues to discover the world (and himself) through travel, acrylic painting, and photography. His works have been exhibited in numerous leading Connecticut venues. The following quote perfectly expresses his philosophy of art:

"As a painter and photographer, I express my life experiences and personal identity through the use of repetition and rhythms,
representing visual forms both natural and man-made. My interpretations of inner struggles and social conflicts rely on
the unique visual cadence of rocks, trees, and hills… or the orderly patterns in objects, shadows and structures. The permanence of a
landscape…the fragility of a birch tree. These images help bring me to a place of greater self-awareness and understanding."
