ABOUT CLAUDIA BELL . . .
1952 - 2022
Some photographers just try to take shots that are marketable. Some photographers capture moments. Claudia captured exceptional moments frozen in time. Look closely at the details, the expression on the faces of her subjects. They beg the viewer to ponder “What's Going On?" Only the most talented of photographers capture moments like these. Claudia did this night after night in various nightclubs, but it was at New Haven’s original House of Punk, Ron’s Place, where she captured the true spirit of what was going on. |
It's rare when a photographer gets up close and personal and captures that moment in time that's a "One In A Million Photograph”. Not only did Claudia have a great eye, she had a feel for when the time was right to depress the shutter release. In the early 1980’s Claudia was shooting on film. She would at times, after a show, go home to her apartment in the early morning hours and develop the film negatives and make prints in her bathroom. Now that’s dedication.
Not only does it take a talented photographer the skills to capture that exceptional moment in time, it's what's going on behind the lens that is equally important. Sizing up a crowded room to get up close to the stage is an art in itself. Also dealing with club management and especially being confronted by a record company representative at the last minute who doesn't want any "unofficial" photographers at the event.
Claudia had all the skills and natural feel that it took to be a photographer that people stop, look, and say 'WOW!"
