ACAM History

The Arts and Crafts Association is a
non-profit organization dedicated to the cultural enrichment of the community. Founded in 1907, it is one of the oldest visual arts organizations in the state of Connecticut.

In June 1981, after a long search, the Association purchased a building at 53 Colony Street. This enabled it to expand the regular monthly meetings and annual exhibit to a full schedule of classes, exhibits, workshops, and other art related activities. Considerable time and effort have gone into the renovation of the building, most of the work having been done by dedicated volunteers. More work remains to be done to fully utilize the building.

The Arts and Crafts is supported by membership, tuition fees, art related fund raising events and private donations. Grants from state and local corporations have been given for special projects.
